I used a credit card yesterday for a purchase at a Wawa. And they needed to see my photo ID to match it to the credit card. I understand that was for my protection. Why should a person voting be any different? Isn't his or her photo ID also for my protection---that my vote will count?

We hear again and again how often and in what disparate circumstances people are asked to show ID. It has nothing to do with the issue.

The question is not "can the government take steps to secure elections by requiring Id. Ofcourse it can. There is nothing wrong with the concept of requiring id/

The problem is that the law would disenfrnachise thousands of people who dont have id today.

No one has a problem with requiring id. Let me repeat, there is nothing wrong with requiring id. All we have to do is ensure that everyone who wants to vote can get an id.

And despite the fact that you can easily get an Id. It remains difficult for many people. That is why enfocement of the law was suspended by a conservative judge.

Yo, Anonymous: Why can't people get the proper ID? Is it because they cannot provide a birth certificate? That is available from the appropriate office of the state of their birth. Is it because they cannot get to the appointed place to get a voter ID? If the Democrats who posit that as being an impediment were to turn their time and resources to getting those people to the ID issuing place instead of handing out in mass numbers voter registration cards, maybe that issue would be overcome as well. Yes the statute have been overturned for November 2012. But four years from now? If someone who wants to vote has four years to get a photo ID, and they choose not to do so, shame on them. I think from your post you agree with that sentiment. So you won't be able in 2016 to say people didn't have a chance to comply with the law. Again, Anonymous: I want my vote to count, not to be negated by a person who is not entitled to vote.

This law was passed to prevent voter fraud and insure the integrity of ballot box. Democrats don't like it because its their voters who are more likely to commit voter fraud.
