Paul Krugman: Straw Man Slayer

Paul Krugman quotes a fictional character created by one of America's most left-wing filmmakers to demonize and caricature Wall Street and, by extension, the probable GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. No doubt his fans will eat it up. But you don't win arguments with such transparent partisanship.

Note to Krugman: Gordon Gekko is not a real person and he is not running for President of the United States, no matter how much you wish he were.

Hey, wait a minute! You're a writer. Are you going to tell me that you've never quoted or referenced a fictional character to make a point? As I watch the Republican candidates cannibalize each other, I am reminded of this wonderful quote from one of my favorites. Pogo. "We have found the enemy and he is us"

Come to think of it there was that time when I compared Barack Obama to Darth Vader and suggested that it was his administration's goal was to destroy Planet Earth...

Do you think I was wrong?

Amazing that we share that quote from Pogo as one of our respective favorites, Bob... Indeed, I sent an email in the early hours of November 5, 2008 to many friends, including those who are very liberal, stating the same exact thing... So, no, Spencerblog, you were not wrong with your fictional reference...

I did what you implored, Bob, as in thinking about what I wrote in my post. And took my time in doing so as you can judge by the time of this post. Despite trying to conclude otherwise I kept coming back to the same place. That is that I think you must have misunderstood my post. On November 5, 2008 I sent my email to friends and family in the vein that "we" (the citizens current and future of the United States) have met the enemy and "he" (the enemy) is "us" (as in the collective electorate that put Barrack Hussein Obama in office). So I respectfully submit that my thinking and rethinking of what I posted is now concluded. I'm pleased you thought it was revealing. Possibly that means you are inclined to agree with me. Just sayin'...

Charlie Six Pack - I gave you a hint. But honestly, I didn't expect you to get it. I'll explain it to you. I have to live in this country for the next four years. As does my son, my father, and all of the other people that I love and care for. Both Liberal and conservative. Gil included. Regardless of who wins the 2012 election, I will wish that person the best of luck, and hope for a prosperous and successful four years. I certainly won't be sending out negative and divisive e-mails.

But I do remember you once referencing Capt. Peter “Wrong Way” Peachfuzz from the “Rocky and Bullwinkle Show" Don't try to deny it.
