The Freshman

It didn't take a long time to move my daughter into her first college dorm room. Just 18 years. My print column is up.

Gil - You have a wonderful daughter. You're a lucky man. That was a beautiful heart felt story that brought tears to my eyes. I'm sure Mal will do quite well. Congratulations. BTW, we still have to toast to Scott. Let me know.

I have sorta walked in your moccasins but not quite... Was pleased (really pleased) to move two sons into their dorms but my step-daughter stayed at home by choice (hers, not mine)... However, the emotions with sons were not that much different than were yours with your daughter. Thank you for sharing with us your experience and giving 'voice' to what so many of us have faced... And thanks too for giving former-Mrs. Spencer-blog a big hug... She deserved it...

Twice in the same year I agree with Bob...no wonder there are earthquakes and hurricanes.
Seriously, a nice column that would touch any parent who has shared that same experience.

For us, it was our only son and Mom was a wreck. She couldn't understand why after unloading the car, we went outside and had a catch. I guess Mom thought we should have unpacked and emoted.

Instead, we engaged in some smack talk, a fist bump, some cash, and we were good to go. Guys are definitely different than girls.

Yeah, Jake... Nice to see that Bob has a soft side. Maybe there is hope yet... Hope springs eternal in Anon's breast!
