Brodeur's On State Street, NOT!

Broduer's is no longer on State Street in Media.

Dan Brodeur has closed up shop and allegedly owes the borough $30,000 in back rent. Borough Council President Frank Daly says they'll go after Brodeur for the back rent. Brodeur's supporters claim he was chased out of the building (the former borough hall) by borough officials who were too demanding and unrelenting in lease negotiations.

Borough officials made a bad move when they didn't simply sell the building to the highest bidder a few years ago. Now, they are stuck with a white elephant, at least for a while. Getting Trader Joe's to come to Media was a smart savvy move. Not getting $1 million for the borough hall property at the top of the real estate market was a dumb one.

Win some, lose some.

For the taxes I'll pay to make up the difference, I'm hoping Frank Daly will stop by my door once a week with hot bread and garlic butter.

A real loss all the way around. Media loses a nice restaurant and a good guy who tried to make a go of it on State Street. Local business will likley suffer some reduction because of the closing and those same business owners as well as residents will likley suffer increased taxes down the road because of this. Add to that the lost rental income and it is a real disaster that should have been properly addressed by the elected officials several years ago...the building should have been sold. Government should not be in the rental business!!Perhaps it was time for "change" after 25+ years of Democratic power but it did not happen and now all will pay the price. Wake up Media!!

That place would make a great funeral home. They could keep the bar intact for Irish wakes.

Back in November I unsuccessfully ran for Media Borough Council and campaigned for better transparency on issues exactly like this! I even formally requested on 8/20 financial information specifically related to events and properties that were not fully itemized in the 2009 budget.

This is the SECOND time in five years mis-management of this building has occurred. Considering, from the 2009 Budget the Library and Fire House receive only $82,000 and $207,700 respectively, $30,000 is A LOT OF MONEY!

Media Borough Council, this needs to be explained!

Anyone finding it ironic that on new year's eve, they're going to drop the ball on a vacant building? Wouldn't that be a recreation of borough council's actions?
