DA on Defense

My print column on the recent spate of Delaware County sex case acquittals is up.

I talked to DA Mike Green and a number of defense lawyers about why either innocent people are being charged with crimes they did not commit or guilty people are walking free.

What are the odds that Michael Green gave you the names of 3 Republican donors?
(if you guessed 100%, you are right)

Arthur Donato:
contributed to the campaign of REP Judge: "CAPPELLI FOR JUDGE 2007"
and to the Springfield Republican Party

Wendy Roberts:
also contributed to the CAPPELLI campaign

Finally, John List:
is a contributor to the Springfield Republican Party

I'm glad you took up the suggestion to confront D.A. Michael Green, but his claim complete ignorance of the problem shows that either he's a liar or incompetent or corrupt.

Whether stuff gets to trial or you "get a listen", often has to do with whether you are a REP or a contributor or you can afford the politically connected "consultants" to shepherd your case. The Delco Courthouse needs a long overdue cleaning.

but capelli wasn't endorsed by the delaware county republican party, right? ooh, that's right, without the endorsement, he essentially ran as an independent!

Try again, anon-iano, and REVEAL THYSELF!!!

The first comment above just goes to show how out of touch and ignorant some people are.

Cappelli may be a Republican but he was the insurgent candidate for judge against the ticket selected by county Republican leaders.

Most of the lawyers I talked to who criticized the DA's office are registered Republicans.

As to the column itself, it doesn't begin to suggest that Michael Green is a liar, incompetent or corrupt.

What the column suggests is that our DAs office could do a better job evaluating cases if it took a little more time to sit down with defense attorneys and tried to fairly and justly resolve them before taking them to trial.

There is no evidence that donations to the Republican party have anything to do with getting favorable treatment from the DAs office.

If they did, Donato, for one, wouldn't have anyting to complain about.

If the problem is a rampant as you claim and Green is ACTING like he's completely unaware of it, then he's a liar or a fool. Period.
You interview, by name, the three people he gives you.

He sounds like the sheriff from the first Rambo movie, who acts all innocent when he says "If a prison has a problem with one of my deputies, he comes to me with it."

"There is no evidence that donations to the Republican party have anything to do with getting favorable treatment from the DAs office."
LOL!!
Even YOU don't believe it's not a frequent occurrence there to grease the wheels.
You are such a Republican stooge.
