"Who is John Galt?"

A parade of signs at the recent tea party protest in Washington.

As Robert Tracinski explains these people aren't racist, as many lefties are claiming, they're pissed at government proflicacy and what they understandably perceive as attacks on their liberty.

Gil - Why aren't you taking Limbaugh to task for saying Obama wants black kids to beat up white kids on the school bus?

Bob,

The question has never been what Limbaugh the political entertainer is saying lately, no matter how much the Democrats want to make him the issue.

The questions are:
1) What are the ramifications of this great energizing of the American public to the liberal assault on their fundamental freedoms?
2) Whether Congress, the mainstream media, and the beltway pundits are smart enough to recognize this dramatic shift in public attitudes?

The signs shown here are handmade, issue-oriented and quite witty. It has to drive the liberal elites batty that drooling, conservative neanderthals actually included topical and literary references in their public display of dissent.

A sleeping giant has been awakened. It is neither racist nor selfish nor extreme. It is simply an appropriate and dare I say inspiring defense of the American dream against an overreaching government.

Jake - In case you missed it, the dramatic shift in public attitudes occured last November when the people of this country realized that the "shoot first, ask questions later" leadership of W, was a disaster, and they elected Obama to the White House. You say "The question has never been what Limbaugh the political entertainer is saying lately" Wrong again. The sleeping giant that you refer to are the dito-heads that, for the most part, can't think for themselves. Glenn Beck claims to be the architect of the march that you are referring to. What does that tell you? Again, I suggest you read Michael Smirconish in this Sundays Inquirer. BTW Jake, are you a believer in evolution or biblical creation?

Bob,

Let go of President Bush, he is old news.

Let go of the ludicrous notion that Limbaugh, Beck and Smerconish are major influences on public policy. Of course, they are going to try to take credit for the 9/12 March on Washington because they are entertainers driven by ratings.

Let go of the oversimplification that Obama's election was a referendum in favor of Democrat ideas. He spent the most and promised the most and now the reality of his inexperience and big government excesses have galvanized the American public.

A march of this magnitude 9 months into a presidency, the visceral anger at the town meetings this summer, the daily disclosure of fraud and corruption by people close to Obama, and the unprecedented stimulus spending and plans for future health care and energy spending all point to a quantum shift in public perception.

Let go of your cynicism. This 9/12 march is exactly how the Founding Fathers hoped our government would function. The people petitioning for redress of their grievances. If you truly are the independent you claim, you should be celebrating this constructive engagement of the citizenry in this fairly sophisticated assertion of their rights and the role of government in their lives.

As to your question about creation, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Enough with the Founding Fathers garbage!!! They didn't even trust the people to elect the president, hence the Electoral College!!!

It's getting old...people have to realize that claiming something represents the Founding Fathers 1.) doesn't mean it actually represents their intentions (there were opposing factions within the framers) and 2.) doesn't automatically make your argument more valid.

So stop using allusions to the Founding Fathers as a silver bullet of debate.

Jake - Why not just ask me to "let go" of all of the facts? It would have been a hell of alot easier.
I can understand why you would want me to "let go of President Bush". Had I voted for him, I would be embarassed to have him discussed too. But until you find a way to discuss current events without the inclusion of history, particulary recent history, Bush will be relevant. Wouldn't you agree?

This protest (not near as big as Beck claims)was the result of the Fox talking heads. The talk show equivelant of the WWF. Smirconish asked why these people weren't protesting during the Bush administration (I hope you forgive Smirconish for not letting go of Bush)"after all it was Bush who erased a healthy surplus during his eight years in office. And it was Bush that initiated the bailout of AIG and others. Indeed if the protesters are concerned about the governments intrusion upon civil liberties, why were they silent about the Patriot Act?"
Good questions Mr. Smirconish. Maybe our friend Jake can answer that for you.

The question about creation relates to an earlier blog that you posted to. You made a comment about global warming, and I asked you if you if you were a creationist or if you believe in evolution. Id still be interested in your answer. So which is it?

Beck's the one that invented the idiotic 9-12 project and talked about it relentlessly on his show, as did the rest of Fox promoting it.

Beck should take credit.

bob, before you get into deep issues like creationism, check if jake thinks the earth revolves around the sun, or the sun revolves around the earth.

Bob,
Of course you would want to change the subject when it comes to the plunging public confidence in the spendthrift Obama agenda.
You lead off by bashing President Bush, the liberal left's favorite target, and then trivialize the massive outpouring of dissent in the 9/12 march on Washington and the numerous town halls this summer.
But changing the subject doesn't change the fact that there has been a significant shift in the way the American people view their government. The hope and promise of Obama has given way to a general understanding that an unwanted liberal assault is taking place upon our fundamental freedoms.
The energy and enthusiasm of these patriotic citizens is a gratifying development, consistent with the highest ideals of an American democracy.

bob and anon-iano,

for two left leaning individuals (Well, OK, one left leaning and one flat out kool-aid drinking apostle), you two seem to be a little too plugged into Glen Beck. Are you listening daily? I suggest you get a HD radio instead and explore more entertaining offerings - WMMR's HD-2 channel broadcasts live recordings of some incredible rock shows. WRTI's HD Channel is all Jazz. And if you're a sports loser like me, 610 WIP is the HD-3 channel for 94.1. Enjoy them, Beck isn't worth the time to formulate conspiracy theories.

Bob,
In a separate post to keep you on target:
I believe God created the world. How he did it is a wonderful mystery.
Evolution is an intriguing theory and might well have been the way God chose to create the world. The Biblical story is a compelling message of God's love and power, and serves to remind us of our special place, made in his image.
I think less about how we got here and more about the good faith and courage we're supposed to demonstrate while we're here.

Jake - Spare us the flowery rhetoric. You're starting to sound like a bumper sticker. Are you denying that Glenn Beck was behind this 9/12 gathering? You may not like it Jake, but the 9/12 gathering was a Fox exclusive. Don't take my word for it. Research it for yourself. The pied pipers over at Fox play the tune, the rats follow, and you call it patriotism.

Bob-
Did you notice how Jake is so afraid of engaging in any real discussion that he can't even commit on something as simple as the earth/sun relationship?

Pathetic.

Bob,
You're coming out against flowery rhetoric? That just confirms how far Obama has fallen. His whole presidency was based on flowery rhetoric, and now even you're sick of it.

Anon-diano,
Obviously, you fail to see the hypocrisy in someone afraid to use his own name wrongly characterizing someone else as being afraid to engage in a real discussion.
Now that's truly pathetic.

Anon-diano -- a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
The only thing we can be sure of is that if Anon-diano believes in Christmas, we won't be on his Christmas card list.

You're right. I see Anon-diano as more of a Festivus sort of guy... feats of strength and airing of grievances.
