Justice Empathy

Obama nominates a judicial hack, Sonia Sotomayor, for the U.S. Supreme Court.

At least he got his losing the national security debate against Dick Cheney off the front pages.

A judge with some real-world, real American, real work ethic experience. Not just some old white guy with a pedigree or an unqualified token like Clarence.

Prediction: she gets confirmed

Obama won that debate. See Generals Powell and Petraeus.

Powell's approval rating is 70%.
That's higher than Cheney's and Limbaugh's percentages added together (30% and 37%). The total of people that approve of either of those two pinheads is probably under 40%.
Powell rules. Dittoheads drool.

For the "anonymous" deep thinkers tingling over this Presidential endorsement of identity politics, let's review Judge Sotomayor's infamous 2002 comments at that bastion of mainstream America, Cal-Berkeley.
She said,(and I'm not making this up) "I would hope a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
Rather than expressing regret at that imprudent remark, she went on to say at Duke in 2005 that the "Court of Appeals is where policy is made." I guess a strong statement about justice and the railroading of the white Duke lacrosse team didn't fit her agenda or politics.
This is a renegade activist judge playing upon her female Latino background to achieve an appointment her public record has failed to earn. The poor quality of her judicial decisions has led to one of the worst records of reversals by the Supreme Court.
We all need to pray that the Republicans get their act together and stop this travesty.

Greenwald buries the entire concept of Gil Spencer, or Glen Beck without the nuance, here:

Greenwald extrapolates from one fairly limited case, where the aggrieved minority litigant had to settle for only a $1.6M judgment, that Sotomayor is a "moderate", not a liberal.
No nuance here, just more Democrat spin to justify their identity politics.
