My print column on a teen sex offender going back to school is up.
Should parents have the right to know that an admitted sex offender is walking the same halls as their children?

This comment came as an e-mail and I am withholding the name of the author. But it speaks to this issue. Here it is:
I just read the article above. When my now grown children were little, a family member who was much older than them, but under the age of 18 molested all three of my children, and numerous other family children. He also molested a few of the neighbor children.
When this came to light, I did everything in my power to have this person arrested and prosecuted, but because he was a juvenile, at his dispostition hearing, the judge ruled that he must get counseling and be a good boy.
Well he wasn't a good boy, he then turned his sick perverted ways on to the mentally challenged and at one point was accussed of raping a mentally challenged girl, but because this girl mistook what he did to her for love, they said it was consentual and did nothing about it.
This story was even reported in your paper. There were other girls that this happened to by this child molester, and it was always covered up. There were even a couple of pregnancies with mentally challenged people.
These people can not change, the person in your story will go elsewhere, maybe to the nursery school in his school.
Please tell the mother of the victim not to stop, I still haven't. I let everybody I know that this person is a child molester and a rapist. My children suffered for many years because of this and this pig just went on and on doing his thing to innocent people.
I wish I could do something to change the laws for this type of thing, I tried a long time ago and was stopped every where I turned. My thoughts and prayers are with the victim and their mother, I know what they are going through, I walked in their shoes.

So what's the emailer's solution? Shooting these under 18 year olds rather then get them treatment?
What about teenagers that became this way because they were victims of sexual abuse themselves?
Giving up on them because they "cannot change" is surrender.
