Frankly My Dears, We Don't Give a Damn!

Barney Frank thinks Barack Obama's selection of evangelical preacher Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration is a "mistake" because Warren has said some things Frank finds "offensive."

Frank doesn't elaborate on Warren's offensive comments but they probably have something to do with the fact that Warren doesn't support gay marriage. A view a majority of Americans share with the preacher.

Personally, we think the voters in Frank's congressional district have made a mistake in electing Frank to Congress and then re-electing him after he went trolling for a sex partner in the classified ads. (Frank's new buddy later ran a gay prostitution ring out of the congressman's apartment.)

Frank also supported the government backing of mortgages for unqualified borrowers that, in part, led to the mortgage meltdown. We consider this a bigger mistake. And we are offended by it.

We hope President-Elect Obama decides to rescind Frank's invitation to attend his inauguration. Or, if Frank is so offended, he should himself refuse to attend.

He could, you know, call in gay.

UPDATE: Frank did elaborate a little. He said, "Mr. Warren compared same-sex couples to incest. I found that deeply offensive and unfair."

We'd like to know what Rep. Frank has against incest. As long as both family members are consenting adults, who is he to judge incest is wrong.

UPDATE II: It has been pointed out to us that incest is illegal. But then so was the practice of homosexuality at one time.

It has also been pointed out that incest is "a perversion." Again, homosexuality was once considered as much. The point is society has "evolved" to the point of being generally accepting of homosexuality. What would be wrong about it evolving to accept incest between consenting adults?

After all how did the evolution of society attitudes toward homosexuality take place? The new atttitude was handed down from the top through argument, persuasion, political agitation and ultimately demonization of anti-gay attitudes.

Once the prejudice against incest has been shown to be nothing more than a prejudice - a revulsion that civilized people have without even thinking about it - decriminalizing incest will be the next step.

Ultimately, hip adults will get to the point of not wanting to be confused with someone who commits incest but will be happy to tolerate the practice if it helps them avoid being labeled a bigot and a hater.

As in "No. I don't sleep with my sister... not that there's anything wrong with that!"

are you trying to drive anon-iano out forever, or did you have a running bet with Phil Heron as to what time this morning he would receive a david diano-esque complaint?

I don't know if it's just me, but I never tend to weigh my decisions on rather they will offend Barney Frank or not.
