In Harms Way for His Country
Nice piece in the NYT on John McCain's son, Jimmy, who joined the Marines at 17 and who has served a couple of tours of duty in Iraq.
The Times notes that the McCains declined to cooperate with the article and asked that it not be published. But given that the Times published an ugly bit of journalism suggesting with little evidence that McCain had an inappropriate (possibly romantic) relationship with a female lobbyist, it couldn't spike a story that actually honored the Republican candidate and his family.
What the story doesn't mention is that Jimmy McCain is a rich kid (his mom is an heiress) but he chose to sign up for military duty anyway. Like Prince (Dirty) Harry giving al Qaida hell in Afghanistan.
No doubt the story will drive the anti-war left nuts. Good.

Take a step back, let's remember that McCain could have chosen to be the type to pound his chest and talk about his son in order to get a sympathy vote. McCain took the high road on this one, shows he really has class.

The story of his time as a POW is quite compelling, though difficult to image that it didn't leave permanent psychological scars.
Oh, so now he's unfit for that office? What happened to the LibDem Michael Moore Standard which dictates: "Only those who have served should be permitted to speak on or wage war"?
Unfortunately, I think his attitude/philosohy is like that of someone with a hammer viewing everything as a nail.

I'll agree with Diano that his POW remark doesn't make McCain the Presidential Candidate or put him in line for succession. (It should have earned him a Medal of Honor, buthis family lines prevented it, that's another story for another time). I think McCain would also agree, he doesn't go out of his way to talk about his time during debates, although he did pull it out during the Woodstock Proposal news that kinda put it into perspective.
What qualifies McCain is the fact that the man can truly reach across the aisle more than any other candidate in 2007/08. The proof is clearly in his record. His views do not match the typically staunch conservative, and that's a good sign, as it shows he thinks with a free mind.
McCain's the only one of the three for whom I feel will unite this country after 8 years of red state/blue state.

OK, let's reply...
1) Young people were involved in every campaign I remember - Reagan's armies in 1980 and 1984, Clinton in 1992 and 1996, Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. It still doesn't result in voting as we've seen each time. Youth involvement never impresses me, they aren't committed to voting like our seniors.
2)Hate to say it, but I have a feeling things will get worse before they get better in terms of race. The Rev Wright was not a good omen for Mr. Barry.
3)Obama is all hype. Wait until he gets confronted on issues he can't back up with prepared speeches (e.g. Drivers Licences for Illegals). Those polls will change VERY quickly.
4)McCain's doing exactly what he has to, but most fo us know he's not the follower of Bush that you believe he is. Many of us were backing McCain in 2000 when bush brought about the dirty tactics to change the course of the primaries that year. McCain will nominate strict interpreters of the consitiution, not mistakes like Ginsberg who will reference European documents for decisions. After all, thats the way it should be. McCain's also not the type to filibuster judicial appointments like the Left side of the aisle who have held up critical appointments every day of this administration. Grow the %^$& up.
Barack Obama will NEVER unite this country on his Overly-Liberal terms.
Now reference the Daily Left and Give me a response.

I swear, it’s almost as if his entire candidacy is a big joke from the start. You can almost see some Lib opps in a room saying how they want to perpetrate a joke on the American people just to see how stupid they are:
“Ok, we’ll put up a candidate that is all slickly packaged with great feel-good sloganeering platitudes but without any real experience or plans whatsoever. We’ll have him talk in sweeping general terms like “change” and “unity”, the idiots will love that! And people will vote for him just because he’s BLACK!” Hahahahaahahaa…!
