Finally, Michelle Obama is Proud of America

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country," Michelle Obama told a crowd in Milwaukee, "because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

For the first time in her adult life? Has America been particularly hard on the former Michelle Robinson.

Let's see:

She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frasier Robinson (who died in 1990),[1] a city pump operator and Democratic precinct captain, and Marian Robinson, a secretary at Spiegel's catalog store;[2] she grew up in the South Shore community area of Chicago.[2][3] Unlike her husband, she was raised in a conventional two-parent home where the family convened around the dinner table nightly.[4] She and her brother, Craig (who is 16 months older), skipped the second grade.[2] Michelle, who is 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) tall,[5] graduated from Whitney Young High School in 1981[6] and went on to major in sociology and minor in African American studies at Princeton University, where she graduated cum laude with an Artium Baccalaureus in 1985.[2]
She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1988.[7]

Wow!

Even if she has never been proud of America for the opportunties it has offered her, America has every reason to be proud of Michelle Obama.

UPDATE: Patterico.com has just scratched the quote attributed to Mrs. Obama by Boston.com. I'm not because it still looks essentially accurate to me. Rico does make a good point about people who talk a lot in public are going to occasionally misspeak. No doubt. He husband recently was caught lifting the words of Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick. The Hillary campaign accused him of plagiarizism. His friend Patrick didn't. Obama said he should have given his friend credit.

Even someone who has enjoyed everything America has to offer as she has is still consumed with race.

Let’s not let them make their problem our problem.

She and the other libs are elitists. They have it all and they are hell bent on making all of us their servants! Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Kerry, Kennedy, Soros, etc.... They are all the same. Is the American public that gullible?

MO needs to get out there now and talk about this.
David D-Never look for Repugs to quote correctly or tell the truth and looking to Gil Spencer for anything but neocon nonsense is a waste.

Oh believe me, Dave, pointing out Michelle's minor faux pas isn't the "best" the anti-Obama crowd will come up with in the months ahead.

Here's a Salon article from 1999

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/10/18/drugs/print.html

Cindy McCain should STFU.

Grew up with a trust fund, married a man who would later implicated in the S&L scandal, and then she STOLE drugs. Of course the fact that her connections kept her out of anything other that a 90 day rehab at some Country Club.

Does anyone wonder why Cindy McCain is "proud" of her country?

Should all Americans be "proud" that slavery was once legal?

Should we be "proud" of the way American Indians were treated by our Government?

How about being "proud" of the Jim Crow laws in the South not too far in the past?

Should we be "proud" of Watergate?

Don't even get me started on the current state of the nation.

There are a lot of things and accomplishments should actually be proud of, point is, blind patrioism is a dangerous concept. You only need to look back 70 years to see that.

Snarky,

Thanks for the link to Salon's story about Cindy McCain and her early 1990s addiction to pain pills.

David, being even-handed in his view that such muckraking is horrible when it comes to potential
First Ladies, will be mortified. Oh well, you can't please everyone.

In the meantime, with her campaign in trouble Hillary is telling her staff to get out their "hazmat" suits while they fish for dirt on Obama.

Am I proud of my country? Sure. Beats most others. I'm even proud of both Democratic candidates for president.

I'm sorry, I read that quote a few times over, and I'm not seeing anything out of context. I interprit the statement as Michelle being disappointed in America until this point. Does that include everything from small items suich as our glory in the 1984 Olympics to the major events such as 2001 where we all united over a national (and international) trajedy? Does that include the Clinton years and the Civil Rights movement? Someone please explain to me where and how I'm wrong on this one...

I will never figure out the Democratic party. You clearly do have qualified politicians who could effectively run this nation as chief executive but out of these primary elections the frontrunner is someone with less than 1/2 term as senator with a salesman's strategy? (Selling them with words since the experience has a lack of bite)

From the caucuses that focus on peer pressure (line up in a room) to these Superdelegates that may ultimately overturn the voice of the people, to clearly superficial endorsements (Delco - we'll endorse Obama, no give us money!!!), this party is a mess. At least you can still point all the world's faults at W for one more year...

I would say nice try again, but this really isn't a very good try.

Mrs. Obama wasn't "misquoted" any more than her husband misquoted Deval Patrick when he lifted his "just words" speech. (Though I'd agree with his campaign that this wasn't "plagiarism" as the Hillary's people complained either.)

You ask "pretend for a moment that you grew up as a black woman. How many "proud" moments have there been for minorities in this country?

The answer is millions. And for you to even suppose otherwise is to have a pretty distorted view of black people in this country.

As for reasons for black people to be proud of this country, they are the same as for white people.

White and Black people stood together against Jim Crow and atavistic racial attitudes and basically have overcome them.

Opportunities abound for black Americans who go to school, work hard and learn something. Michelle Obama is a case in point. No doubt her parents are proud of her and have good reason to be.
They also have good reason to be proud of their country and the strides it has made in including people of all races, faiths and backgrounds giving them their shot at the American Dream.

The voting buffoonery you and others complain about seems to occur almost exclusively in DEMOCRAT-controlled districts.
It's amazing how "subtle" it is, isn't it?

Per you suggestion that "Hillary's candidacy helps end (or greatly reduce) discrimination that she's seen for both blacks and women during her adult life."

Believe that if you want. I think she's in it for the power.

Apologists like Dave will rail endlessly about alleged redistricting schemes that benefit whites while at the same time these very same Libs then see nothing wrong with the blatant and sanctioned racial gerrymandering that gives blacks undue influence.
This is the same Lib double standard that causes them to continue to scold us about the minute amount of white racism while giving a pass to the broad black racism that this election season has exposed.

TO all: What is happening is that the liberals don't have a standard. Whatever they do is ok. How pathetic, at least for those of us with brains, is it that Obama's wife is now finally proud for the first time in her life - blah blah blah. She and her husband are millionaire elitists. They don't care about the little guy any more than Edwards, Kerry, Soros or the rest of these rich libs care. They want to be in charge and tell the rest of us how to live.

They are the fascists and watch what will happen over the next 20 years or so if Obama is elected President. We will have change and it won't be good. Think Marx, Lenin, Hitler, etc...

Actually, it may be good for America in the long run if we have B. Hussein Obama in office for one term. Having a radical black Liberal like him in there and the destructive policies he no doubt would institute might serve to remind people of just how turned off they were to that Libism mess back when our nation was shifting Right, before they got whipped into an anti-Bush frenzy and the Left dishonestly capitalized on that to seize power. The entire world has been kicking Liberalism to the curb (Canada, France, Briton…), Americans just need a reminder as to why. And the best way to do this is to let one in there for four years. That may just prove to be the final nail in the Libism coffin. And that would be a good thing.

How many friggin times are we going to throw the race card in as an excuse for misquotes in society? Christ, if we didn't have the PC movement in this nation, we'd be closer to being one race (human) than we are right now.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm not buying it. And I'm not giving a free pass.

I swear, just vote for Obama and see how even more screwed up this country can get when you vote for someone who's oratory skills match the best infomercial stars in the last two decades.

Experience counts in this one, folks. If we're dying for change after Bush, please seek QUALITY while you're there. If you're convince Obama is the one who can competently leak our nation, than I have a magical bridge in media to sell you...

He’d leak our country, alright...

You are quite right, Steve. Despite the never ending PC scoldings misdirected at others, bitter blacks and their Modern Liberalism apologists indeed are what keep our nation divided by race today. The really disgusting part is that this is an engineered division, it is by design, intended to keep people suspicious and divided into warring groups for extortive and political purposes. This is the whole premise behind Modern Liberal divisive identity politics.
And yet people don’t seem to mind as they continue to grant Libs power because they either fail to see it or they have succumb to all the BS.
